I joined the security industry twelve years ago in September. I was very excited at the opportunity to learn a new industry and see how it fit into the business landscape. Only by doing that could I work out how to try and be a part of its improvement. One of the first things I drove with Advent IM was defining and formalising Core Values. When we started the process, I realised very quickly that our own behavior and activity had the potential to create an impact that extended well beyond our business. I was pleased to discover that not only could we define and verbalise our own Values and how they would work for us, but also for our clients and also for our whole industry. So, the design of these values was to work on those three levels and that allows us to keep a weather eye on how best to raise the profile and perception of our sector. It supports how we view security and its importance to the effective running of all organisations, including their growth. Communicating about that is a genuine privilege.

To be a finalist in the Women on Security Awards is such a humbling and exciting thing for me.  I have looked through the other listed finalists with such respect for them. Now, I will get the chance to meet and congratulate them in person. When I look at those women, I know what the phrase, ‘standing on the shoulders of giants’, means. For they are going to be the signal, the call to excellence, and the role models of the next generations. To share a glass of champagne with them will be my next genuine privilege.
